3.4 Activity: Investigate the links between the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) and food systems

Key actors and institution that set up and implementing the SDG are as follow:

The (UNFAO 2021) guidance on core indicators for agrifood systems measured the private sector’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. The guidance suggested 57 core indicators for the sustainability measurement of private companies in the agriculture production and processing sector. Both quantitative and qualitative information on different sectors (economic, environment, social and institution) are collected.  This stemmed from the realization that the role of private sectors is not fully recognized and given the weight it deserves it relation to reporting on SDGs indicators in countries. Many companies do collect SDGs data whether not in lined with the government reporting standard or not in the format required by the SDGs secretaries therefore their information have the tendency to be doubtful.

• How is ‘sustainability’ defined by these actors and institutions?  

The organizations together defined  “Sustainable Development as that type of  “development that meets the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

• Which SDGs do they seek to address and priorities?  

  They are seeking the SDGs 1to 17 agenda. The private sector has an agenda for to end poverty;      protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everybody in the world. Therefore,           companies and private-sector institutions have the responsibility to provide a sustainable economic at institutional level.

• Do you find any tensions between different SDGs?   

There is some kind of tension between the SDGs 1 to 3 are more directly to food security
